History Take a journey through time at the Gairloch and Ullapool Heritage Museums. Various collections and exhibits pertaining to crofting life in the Highlands and the infamous clearances. Special events and demonstration days are held throughout the summer. Gardens Inverewe Garden at Poolewe: National Trust for Scotland property. World famous sub-tropical garden whose plants flourish due to the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. Tournaig House Garden and Garden Cottage Nursery. Situated just over a mile from Poolewe, this delightful garden is the property of Lady Horlick. The adjacent Garden Cottage Nursery offers a wonderful variety of plants for sale. Attadale Garden: Overlooking Lochcarron, this garden was used during the filming of Hamish MacBeth. Leckhelm Arboretum: south of Ullapool this arboreturm offers beautiful woodland walks overlooking Loch Broom. Walking and Climbing There are numerous walks of varying grades available in the immediate area. You may wish to visit a waterfall, cave, Highland clearance village or WWII crash site. Keen archaeologists will see the remains of Pictish forts, 1st Millennium BC round houses and even Viking long houses. Informative ranger guided walks are available in Poolewe during the season. For the more adventurous there are numerous munros to be bagged including arguably Scotland's finest mountain "An Teallach". Wildlife & Falconry Wester Ross is home to numerous varieties of wildlife and birds. Red deer, pine martins, otters, wild cats, wild goats, buzzards and eagles may all be seen. From nearby Gairloch a marine cruise will take you to see Minke whales, dolphins, porpoise, and seals. West Highland Hawking Experience a half day "With the Hawks" with David & Lilah Ford based at Kinlochewe (a half hour drive from the hotel). Walk the spectacular hills or beside a loch, flying a hawk in its own environment. View other birds of prey including a Golden Eagle. This is a unique event to be treasured for the rest of your life. It is possible to take a walk with the hawks all year round, subject to suitable weather conditions. If holding an exclusive event at the hotel a wide range of birds of prey can be brought to the hotel for your guests to enjoy their own falconry display. |

Fishing, Sea Angling and Sailing During the Season (Easter to early October) it is possible from nearby Gairloch to go Sea Angling on board MV Kerry which is based at Gairloch harbour. Also based at Gairloch is Ric Holmes. Ric can teach you to sail a yacht -"Ventura" or take you power boating on the Loch. Ventura is available for 1/2 a day or a full day sailing and is an excellent way to see the Loch. Where possible it is best to book this in advance, but please remember it is dependent on the weather! There are numerous hill lochs available for trout fishing in the area and permits can be purchased in the local area. There are many craft and coffee shops to visit and regular craft fairs are held in the village halls throughout the area. |
